Broken Car Key

Car keys take a lot of abuse. Flip keys snap at the hinge, blades shear off in a stiff lock, and casings crack after one drop too many onto a driveway. A broken key is also a warning sign — if it is your only key, the next stage is a lost key job.

We replace and rebuild broken keys at your location, transferring or reprogramming the electronics as the job requires.

  • Broken or snapped key blades
  • Broken remote housings and hinges
  • Physically damaged car keys
  • Replacement key shells
  • Full replacement keys where a rebuild is not suitable
  • Cutting a fresh blade to the vehicle

Shell replacement vs new key

If the electronics inside are intact, a new shell with a freshly cut blade is often the sensible fix. If the circuit board or transponder is damaged, a complete replacement key is the honest answer and we will say so.

Worn keys that still work

A key that has to be wiggled to turn is usually worn, not broken — and it is putting wear into the lock and ignition too. Cutting a fresh key from the vehicle's code often solves it before the barrel needs work.

If part of the key is in the lock

Do not force it. See our broken key extraction service, which covers keys snapped inside a door lock or ignition.

Broken Car Key FAQs

My flip key snapped at the hinge — can it be fixed?

Usually. If the electronics are undamaged we can fit a new shell and cut a fresh blade to your vehicle.

The buttons still work but the case is cracked — is that urgent?

Not urgent, but worth doing. Cracked cases let moisture in, and water damage to the board turns a cheap repair into a full key replacement.

Do you carry shells for my car?

We carry a range and order specific parts where needed. Send your registration and a photo of the key and we will confirm.
